A Mothers View

Intro:

One common message for these podcasts has been respect and recognition for these individuals. Naturally for those of us who are parents that is a given. In this podcast you will hear writings from individuals whose moms are seeing a very special side of their son or daughter based on the ability to tap one letter at a time on a letterboard. One mom sees her son writing about self awareness, while another mom sees her daughter beginning to write with more creativity, and another mom engages in a conversation with her son for the very first time, ever!!!! So the truth is parents are seeing undeniable growth with a methodology that continues to be questioned and more importantly not embraced within many circles within society today. For the next 7 minutes…………..

COMMENT: first up and for the first time on the podcast hailing from the state of Virginia is 22 yr old Ryan who was introduced to RPM back when he was 14. In a conversation I had with his mom she shared how things seemed calmer and was reflecting on something Ryan wrote. He has been expressing that although his body displays himself as an extrovert that he's actually shy and although he's achieved a huge milestone of being able to communicate (just since age 14/15) that often he still appreciates the quiet, the silence and sometimes saying nothing says more than words can.. Here's one of his poems he recently wrote after New Years and his mom was his CP

Other Ways to Be Happy

I feel sometimes we overthink the physical.

I wish we could all experience the beauty of silence.

To feel the lack of words is often the most profound moment.

My New Year's wish to everyone is to take the time to experience the silent.

Talking does not always bring excitement, joy or peace.

Your loudest word is your wish inside you kept fed by your own acceptance.

COMMENT: Ryan thank you for sharing what I would refer to as sage advice for all us: “take a moment and experience the beauty of silence”. Thanks again and keep writing words of profound wisdom.

Gianna is next up and her mom shared with me this rather creative writing that seemed to surprise her, however, as we are all beginning to see there really shouldn’t be any surprises coming from within these amazing minds. The title to this piece…….. no surprise is called:

Creative

Cold thaws and the world becomes christened with light.

Earth fills with special attitude of love.

Air creates rainbows in the sky.

Electricity breathes new life all around us.

Across time love is found.

COMMENT: G, very very nice, beautifully said and beautifully done . As always thank you for allowing us to share your words. G, as you know you’re writings are always welcome.

Next up is a very special moment which I’m sure will be very hard to imagine for so many people to comprehend, we have a mom who for the very first time has an open exchange or open conversation with her son through the RPM process. Jake is 31 years old and again this is the very first time he and his mom are exchanging thoughts together. This dialog took place this past St. Patrick’s day with his CP Kyle and took a total of 45 minutes. At this session was Kyle, Jake, his mom, and Peggy (who has been supporting Kyle for many many years). Kyle was discussing the history of St. Patrick's Day and how he was captured and enslaved by Irish pirates for 6 years. He received a message from God to go back to Ireland as a missionary. So the voices you will be hearing come from my good friends at Caffeine Academy (by the way all with NY accents). I will be the voice of Kyle, Liam will be the voice of Jake, Mia will be the voice of Mom and Diane will be the voice of Peggy:

Kyle: How do you think he felt being enslaved?

Jake: Horrible

Kyle: Why did he go to Ireland?

Jake: God sent him a message.

Jake: How is the mind able to hear God?

Kyle: What do you think?

Jake: His words at church.

Peg: You teach me so much, Jake.

Kyle: Who are you talking to (Peg or Mom)

Jake: Can you hear God?

Me: Yes, all the time. You just have to listen.

Jake: Is there a way to listen better?

Me: I hear God when I pray. I have to be still and focus to really hear Him.

Jake: Hard to have my mind focus.

Kyle: You can practice to focus more.

Jake: How do you practice?

Me: I picture a road with God straight ahead of me. As I pass all of the other signs along the road (like, what did I have for lunch yesterday, where am I going after RPM, what time is Jeopardy on, etc.) I just pass them by and continue to look forward to God.

Peggy: I think of one word and focus on that. "God" "Angel" "Church" etc.

Jake: Love it!

Kyle: Our session is over in one minute, any last words for today?

Jake: God is always here.

Comment: That ends the 45 minute session. And what I would call an  absolute gift from heaven, for a mother and son to connect in a conversation on the letterboard, after 30 years……come on now, wow. How’s that for an unforgettable moment in ones life.

Last up is an acrostic poem I dug up that my son wrote many many years ago for his mom for Mothers Day. Being that Mothers Day is this month I thought it would be appropriate to finish with this poem titled  MOTHER.

M – most loving mother, nice, kind, pretty, smart

O- only woman nothing short of amazing. Rose my mother, love you with all my heart

T- There is no other that can take the place of my mother

H- Hugs please, really need hugs, roses with sugar on top. Happy to remind you very much I love you

E- Each time I see you my heart lights up, hearing your voice sets me free

R- Roses will be something mom deserves with love and admiration, she is the best mom in the whole world

COMMENT: Richie thank you for your writing and writing to the most important person in your life. Mom is definitely a keeper.

Outro:  We’ll end it here and I know I speak for many parents within this community that growth is definitely without a doubt happening for their son or daughter using a simple letterboard or key board. The bigger question is, what about the rest of the world. Trust me, the world becomes a better place when we all begin to listen and support these individuals. That’s it for now, till next time.
